VanMoof S3/X3: Main Battery Repair Kit

**PLEASE NOTE:** SOLDERING SKILLS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION.

**PLEASE NOTE:** WE CAN INSTALL THESE COMPONENTS FOR YOU IF YOU ARE IN LONDON, OR YOU CAN SEND YOUR BATTERY OR BMS PCB TO US.

⚠️ Important Safety Notice

  • Only attempt this if you are experienced with high-voltage lithium battery packs.
  • Always wear protective gear (gloves, goggles).
  • Work in a fire-safe, ventilated environment.
  • Do not short any terminals or expose cells to heat or moisture.
  • Do not use or keep any conductive tools (e.g., metal tweezers, screwdrivers) near the battery during the procedure.
  • Keep your desk clean and free of unnecessary tools or objects.
  • Ensure there are no liquids on or near the work area.

Before You Start – Safety Warning

Warning: Working on lithium-ion battery packs is inherently dangerous and should only be performed by individuals with suitable electronics repair experience. Incorrect handling can result in fire, explosion, serious injury, or permanent damage to the battery.

Always remove the BMS board from the battery pack before carrying out any soldering or component replacement. Never attempt to solder components while the BMS remains connected to the lithium-ion cells. The heat from soldering, accidental short circuits, or damage to the protection circuitry can cause the battery to enter thermal runaway, potentially resulting in fire.

Before beginning any repair:

  • Disconnect and remove the BMS board from the battery pack.
  • Ensure the work area is clean, dry, and free of flammable materials.
  • Use appropriate ESD protection when handling electronic components.
  • Wear suitable eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep a Class D fire extinguisher or other suitable lithium battery fire suppression equipment readily available.

Do not continue with the repair if the battery shows signs of swelling, physical damage, overheating, or electrolyte leakage. Such batteries should be handled and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

FUSE

Please replace it with a Soldering Hot Station. The temperature setting should be no higher than 370 degrees Celsius.

TVS Diodes

Original TVS diodes should be replaced with diodes of the same size and higher specification. The size is crucial; online recommendations often suggest smaller diodes which offer less heat resistance and don’t meet the BMS’s expectations.

Charging MOSFET

There are two versions of charging MOSFET: ATP301 and ATP114. If yours is ATP301, replace it with the provided one. For ATP114, test it and replace if necessary.

Resistors : R151

If the R151 resistors are damaged or not providing 50Ω (three 150Ω resistors should achieve this) they should be replaced.

Resistor : R205 / R305

(optional) There are two versions of fuse’s resistor: 205 (2 MΩ) and 305 (3 MΩ). If yours is 305, replace it with the provided one. For 205, test it and replace if necessary.
